CASE STUDY – NANDO’S ANNUAL TEAM MEET (60 PAX)

BACKGROUND
We were delighted to be approached by Nando’s to organise some activities for the annual team meet. It’s always exciting to work with new companies and play a role in entertaining their staff, so we were keen to put together something bespoke and memorable. Business aside, we are also big fans of their food, so we hoped equally we could bring something really tasty to their table…
From our briefing it soon became clear that the main purpose of the event was to reward staff, and the Nando’s management were keen to give their staff some choice in the reward activity. It’s really important to listen to our clients and present something that shows we have understood what they are looking for, and more importantly that we have been as creative in our thinking as possible.
After careful consideration, we served up an option of river rafting or an Indian cooking experience.
Both share the obvious features of being fun, unusual, and designed to bring you together as a team, but we made sure that one catered to the more energetic thrill-seekers and there was an option for those who are not so keen on the outdoors. It’s important to remember that individuals are individuals and what suits one person’s personality may not suit another, so by presenting two very different but equally appealing options we made sure everyone would have fun and feel included. We also wanted to draw on Nando’s own values and tried to choose activities to align with these.
RESULTS
River rafting is a fantastic group activity. It might sound daunting, but it’s brilliant for bringing a group together, requiring attention, quick thinking, clear communication and agility, and it cements togetherness. Skills that will serve staff well in the corporate world. Interestingly, two thirds of the Nando’s team chose this activity. Because there were high numbers, our professional river instructors were also able to enrich the experience by putting on some competitions and races along the way. It
was great to see that keen competitiveness come out on the day amidst plenty of laughter and fun.
The rest of the team chose the Indian cooking experience, and with Nando’s sitting within the food industry this activity really reflected their values. Our professional chef is so proud of the food he creates and has extensive experience, so he was able to bring to life some incredible dish choices with the team. They soon set about prepping and cooking and working together to ensure each dish was completed. There was of course plenty of food tasting along the way, although they made sure to save enough for the river rafters, too.
We purposely chose a venue for the cookery that was close to the river rafting location which meant that the entire team could join together at the end of the day to share their accounts of the activities, enjoy some food and drink, and socialise as one large group. By incorporating one team’s activity within the dining aspect of the day, we were also able to ensure that Nando’s saved on their catering budget. It’s this attention to detail and care for doing what’s right for the companies we work with which is part of our HDK signature sparkle.
